No team or coach is successful on their own. It takes an army of behind the scenes parents to create a "program." Our team is no exception. We need your support in many ways. The most important way you can support us is by supporting your athlete.

Here's how:

1. Stay informed, communicate with your son and with the coaching staff
2. Support your son at meets and tournaments (but please let the coaches & referees do their jobs!)
3. Help with fundraising, transporting, home meets, etc.
4. Wait in the foryer during practice time: Practice Room is for WRESTLERS and COACHES!!!
5. Help prevent infections from spreading: Make sure your son showers daily after practices!
6. Help your son be successful in school: Check grades on Aeries and make sure homework is being done

The Wrestling Parent - author unknown

Parents in wrestling are courageous -- it's true;
They feel all the pain that their boy must go through.
At home, when he diets, they wish it could stop,
Yet know he must do it to stay on top.

Excuses for losing they will never endure,
Don't blame the ref, son, because of the score.
The coach, he will show you the best way to move,
Keep working in practice if you want to improve.

At dual meets you'll see them whispering a prayer,
As their boy must compete with no one else there.
Whatever the outcome- Mom cheers with deep pride,
While Dad-you will notice- stands right by his side.

They'll drive to tournaments; many miles away,
To witness a son who's prepared for this day.
Their boy, he has trained, with all of his might,
Having hopes of becoming a champion tonight.

But should he fall short, at his corner you'll find,
A Mother and a Father- supportive and kind.
They teach that through wrestling he'll learn about life,
Yes, living is filled with both triumph and strife.

Now if you are searching for people who care,
Just look by a mat, they'll always be there.
Such love for the sport is truly inherent,
That's why we salute, The Wrestling Parent!

Our program has prided itself in having the best of everything including uniforems, equipment, travel, tournaments, etc. In order to keep this level of excellence we must raise a substantial amount of funds. If each wrestler will do their share we can easily meet our needs.

Eligibility
Wrestlers must be medically cleared through Mrs. Cardova.
A recent physical will be required. All Athletes will be checked for outstanding bills to classes or former sports. An Athlete must have a 2.0 GPA or higher from the previous quarter (1st Qtr for wrestlers). Each Athlete must sign the drug policy agreement giving permission to the school to randomly test them at various times of the year. No student will be allowed on the mat without the above clearances.
Attendance

Each wrestler will be allowed two absences per season, which will not be considered for team dismissal. Wrestlers are responsible for notifying a coach of the intended absence before practice begins that day. Failures to notify a coach before an absence will result in a supervised make up practice. Even if a coach was notified prior to absence, wrestlers are still expected to make up the missed workout through drill, strength training and/or aerobic workout.

Upon the third absence the wrestler will meet with the coaches outside of practice to come to a resolution of the problem. If the wrestler is to continue to be a member of the team he will perform a supervised makeup. A fourth absence will require the coaches to do a critical assessment of the situation, which will require a written agreement regarding attendance or force dismissal.

Tardiness- Tardiness is unacceptable. Wrestlers are expected to be completely dressed, on the mat or other location ready to begin practice at the scheduled time. Wrestlers who need to see the trainer for pre-practice treatment or taping are expected to report to the training room 30 minutes prior to practice starting. Tardiness will be dealt with in such a manner to highly discourage their occurence.

Athletes will receive a copy of this attendance policy which must be signed and returned to Coach Lakmann at the beginning of each season.

Transportation

All Students must ride the bus or approved vehicle with approved parent or coach drivers to any and all school sponsored events. The only exceptions to these rules are:

1) The Golden Triangle Area (Shasta County) and Student may drive themselves to the event (not other teenagers). 2) Students may go home with parents if they have the approvedform signed.

Dual Matches
All wrestlers are to attend all assigned matches. During the match they are to be in assigned locations (as designated by the coaching staff). After the match (home meets) they are required to help clean up, put up mats, and attend a quick post-match wrap-up meeting. Only those wrestlers who have a parent note for emergencies may leave early.
Tournaments
The school and team pays hundreds of dollars in entry and transportation fees to the tournaments we schedule. The tournament hosts depend on our attendance. They expect a competitive (and full) team to show up. It is vital that, if a wrestler wins a starting spot, they show up to ALL tournaments. Missing a tournament after making a commitment is intolerable and will be dealt with as such. The wrestling schedule and calendar is available online and every parent is given a hard copy at the parent meeting. Please arrange your calendars accordingly.
Fund Raising
We feel it is our job to make wrestling the best experience your son has ever had. We would be letting them down if we didn't keep a standard of excellence and top notch quality in everything we do. This includes uniforms, equipment, workout room, competition, tournaments, hotesl, etc. In order to maintain this standard we will have to do fundraising. Fundraising is a moder day necessary evil. No on enjoys it but it is also our goal to give back and reward a hard working team and/or individual. We will have team and individual rewards for meeting our quota. EVERYTHING we raise will be put back to use for THIS year's team. We need every parent to support this effort whole hardily in order to be successful.
"Team Parents"
No team or coach is successful on their own. We need your support in many ways. If you are unable to commit to the various opportunities available to support your son's team, you can support us by supporting your athlete. Do not hesitate to call us or email us if you have a question or problem. If you need to meet with us personally, please set up an appointment (usually after practice). We realize you have the best interest of your son first and foremost on your mind - please realize we have the same focus but spread out over 30-40 members of our TEAM.
Wrestlers Pick Up
Practice will end usually between 5:45-6:00 pm. Please park in the gravel parking lot next to the wrestling room. If we do our job as recruiters our room will be way too small! We will need every square inch. For your safety, please meet your son at the car uness you need to pick him up early. In that case please enter through the back door (which has a small hallway off the mat). After 6:00 pm please feel free to come in.

Tips for Keeping Your Athlete Healthy and Strong

We want your son to stay healthy and fit so he can perform his best this season (and we know you do, too). There is an abundance of information on the Web covering topics that range from dieting and weight maintenance to exercise and strength training to preventing injuries, illness and infections. Here are just a few helpful tips for keeping your athlete at his peak performance all season long:
Weight & Nutrition

You can help your athlete to be the BEST his potential will allow by making sure he follows these rules:

1.Strength Training - 3-5 times each week in the weight room DURING SEASON as well as off season. If your athlete is cutting weight, it is even more important to keep up his strength training since cutting weight, practices and competing will cause the body to use its own muscle for fuel.

2. Eat More Frequently - Don't let him starve his body to make weight! Eating more frequently allows the body to lose fat, rather than muscle and water. Feed your athlete 4-6 small meals each day.

3.Consume the Correct Amount of Calories - Have your athlete multiply his current body weight by 13 find out the minimum number of calories he'll need to consume each day - during season.

4. Eat a 40-30-30 Ratio - Make sure your athlete eats the proper ratio of protein, carbohydrates and fats: 40% of calories should come from lean proteins (egg whites, turkey, lean beef, whey protein powder, skinless chicken). 30% of daily calories should come from complex carbohydrates (multi grain bread, baked potato, sweet potato, brown rice, oatmeal), and 30% of calories should come from unsaturated fats (olive oil, nuts).

7. Stay Away From Sugar - Sugar has no place in the wresting meal plan! Eating sugar has no long-term positive effects on energy levels and is much more likely to be converted and stored as fat.

8. Stay Hydrated - Wrestlers who are trying to make weight should drink 3-4 oz of water every 3 hours.

Weight Certification

All wrestlers who participate in wrestling competition in the CIF at any level are required to pass the CIF Weight Certification. The CIF Weight Certification program has two basic components: 1) Nutrition Education and 2) Establishment of a healthy minimum weight for each wrestler. The CIF Weight Certification program does not allow the body fat percentage of student- athletes to fall below a certain level: Male wrestlers must maintain
a minimum of 7% body fat & Female wrestlers must maintain a minimum of 12% body fat

Hygiene

Skin infections account for up to 10% of time-loss injuries in some sports and can cause serious illness. Skin infections can be spread from one athlete to another.
You can help protect our athletes from becoming sick or missing competetions due to skin infections in the following ways:

1. DO NOT wear street shoes on the mat
2. Make sure your athlete showers after EVERY practice
3. Wash workout gear after EVERY practice - NEVER wear workout gear twice
4. Use Betadine soap (can purchase at Amazon.com)
5. Promptly treat any infections with an OTC skin cream and/or seek medical treatment

Injuries

Care and Treatments:

When an injury occurs in athletes it is best to seek treatment by an expert in the field of the sport. You must make the decision that you deem best for your child. However, we have an experienced trainer/physcial therapist available on sight (Wes Sphar); as well as a state of the art treatment room.

We highly recommend utilizing this convenient resource. If a doctor is required you must make the call, but again we recommend someone that has experience in the field of sports medicine. Wes owns and operates Mt. View Physical Therapy in Redding and can be contacted at 247-1280. If nothing else he will be able to give you some suggestions for seeking the right treatment for your athlete. The rule of thumb for most injuries is "R.I.C.E" (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). If a doctor does decide to keep an athlete out of practice or matches, a note will be required (from same doctor) in order to return to "active duty."

Injured Athletes Attendance:

It is vital that a wrestler (even if injured) be in the practice room daily to see and listen to the instructional period. Many times a wrestler can be on one of our exercise bikes working upper or lower uninjured parts and still keep up with his cardio-shape.
